Day 17. March 21
Athens via Piraeus, Greece
Athens via Piraeus, Greece
Lykavittos Hill shown in the middle of the photo is the highest peak in Athens, and not surprisingly can be seen from pretty much every area of the city. There is a path to walk up, or a funicular/tram can take you there for a 360 degree view of the city and Piraeus port. Athens is one of the oldest cities in the world with a recorded history that goes back 3,400 years. Classical Athens was a center for philosophy, art and learning and considered the cradle of Western civilization and democracy. In 2014, Athens has an estimated population of 665,000 in the city proper, or 3.75 million in the metropolitan area.
